Car Deregistrations in Singapore: Monthly Tracker

· 2 min read

44,364 Category A and B cars were deregistered in January–August 2026, 40% more than a year earlier. Monthly figures and how they feed the COE quota.

5,349 Category A and B cars were deregistered in August 2026, and 44,364 from January to August, 40% more than in the same months of 2025. The monthly peak so far was 6,394, in May 2026. Deregistrations matter because they set most of the next COE quota: every quarter LTA replaces a share of the vehicles deregistered over the previous year. This page is updated as LTA publishes each month’s figures.

Why deregistrations are rising

A COE lasts ten years. In 2016 and 2017, 87,504 and 91,922 new cars were registered, far more than in 2018–2021, and those cars are now reaching the end of their COE. Owners can renew instead; see renewing or replacing.

How deregistrations become quota

Each quarter’s replacement quota is 25% of the deregistrations over the previous twelve months. A rise in deregistrations therefore reaches the quota gradually, over four quarters. The quota also includes growth, adjustments and the additional COEs LTA is releasing over several years. See how the quota is calculated.

More quota does not guarantee lower premiums: in May–July 2026 Category B received 7% more COEs and its average premium still rose 11.6%. See the May–July quota.
