EV vs Petrol Cost Comparison
Compare quoted on-road prices and running costs over up to ten years. Adjust each assumption to match your vehicles and driving habits.
Compare the total cost of owning an electric vehicle versus a petrol car in Singapore. Use prices after COE, registration charges and rebates. Enter an additional discount only if it is not already in the quote. This comparison covers up to one 10-year COE term.

How this calculator works
Enter the final price quoted for each vehicle, including COE, taxes and any rebates already applied. Leave additional discount at zero unless your EV quote excludes a separate discount.
Annual electricity or fuel cost equals consumption per 100 km, divided by 100, multiplied by distance and your energy price. Add insurance, maintenance and annual road tax. The chart and data table add these running costs to the purchase outlay for each year.
EV road tax uses the combined maximum motor power and includes the additional flat component. Petrol road tax uses engine capacity. Rules are maintained in the shared effective-dated tax catalog. Amounts are rounded to whole dollars for comparison.
Check LTA's vehicle tax structure and the dealer's rebate breakdown before using a quote. This tool does not determine VES or EEAI eligibility.

What this calculator does not capture
- Uses your energy, insurance and maintenance assumptions; it does not fetch live quotes.
- Holds current road tax and annual costs constant; future policy and price changes are unknown.
- Covers at most one ten-year COE term, with no renewal or age-related road tax surcharge.
- Excludes resale value, finance, parking, ERP, charging installation and battery replacement.
- CO2 figures estimate operational emissions only; they are not a lifecycle assessment.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I subtract VES or EEAI from the quoted price?
- Use the final on-road quote after all rebates and charges. Do not deduct a rebate again if the dealer already included it. The optional additional-discount field is only for a discount excluded from your quote.
- Is EV road tax always cheaper?
- No. Fully electric cars use motor-power bands plus an additional flat component. Compare the actual power rating and engine capacity; neither drivetrain is always cheaper.
- Does this include depreciation or resale proceeds?
- No. This is purchase cash outlay plus the selected running costs. It excludes resale proceeds, financing, parking, ERP, charger installation, battery replacement and COE renewal.
- What if the cheaper car changes during ownership?
- The cumulative table compares both options each year. A car that costs less upfront can become more expensive if its annual running costs are higher. The result identifies either crossover direction within the selected period.
