How to Read COE Price Trends
The charts show recorded premiums, bids per available certificate, and the difference between Categories A and B. Use the same exercise dates and category definitions when comparing periods. Older dates marked as estimates are not verified bidding-day records.
A higher quota can change bidding conditions, but demand and policy also matter. The bid ratio describes the completed exercise; it is not a tested leading indicator. A widening category spread measures a difference in premiums, not the reason buyers submitted their bids.
Compare the published quota and results archive. The supply scenarios state their assumptions and do not predict a winning premium.
Frequently Asked Questions
What affects COE prices?
Each exercise combines a limited quota with submitted bids. Deregistrations and policy adjustments affect quota; demand also changes. A chart alone cannot establish the cause of a price movement.
Is there a reliable ten-year price cycle?
Vehicle expiry and renewal decisions influence future supply, but there is no fixed schedule of price peaks or troughs. Treat historical patterns as observations, not a forecast.
What does the bid ratio tell me?
It is bids received divided by available certificates for that exercise. A ratio of two means two bids per certificate. It does not establish bid amounts or predict the next premium.
What is the Category A vs B spread?
It is Category B premium minus Category A premium for the same exercise. It can be positive or negative and cannot by itself establish buyer motivations or future price direction.
